Petrographic view of the stone: Pomegranate amphibole.

Description: : metamorphic rock.

Business name: "Tundra" or "Nordic Sunset". Within the boundaries of the Nigrozero deposit, a subspecies of garnet amphibolite with a large (up to 70%) inclusion of white minerals is extracted - its commercial name is Ais Tundra

Mine: "Nigrozero"

Location of the deposit: Russia, Republic of Karelia, Loukhsky district, pos. Chupa, 50 km to the railway station. Chupa. The quarry is located at the very border with the Murmansk region, a few kilometers from the Arctic Circle.

The company that is developing the quarry: LLC "Management Company" Mining Management PO "Vozrozhdenie."

Mineralogical composition: amphibole (hornblende) - 35%, plagioclase - 28%, quartz - 20%, garnet (almandine) - 15%, argiosite, clinopyroxene - 1%, Sfen-1%, accessory minerals (apatite, rutile, biotite, orthite, sulphides) are single grains.

Volume and method of extraction: diamond-rope. The yield of commodity blocks is about 3,000 m3 per month. Extraction on a career seasonal - from April to November.

Effective specific activity of natural radionuclides: I class. Average values of 40 Bq/kg (range of indicators from 36 to 44 Bq/kg). The first class of radiation safety allows using this stone not only for the production of materials used in road construction, construction of industrial buildings and structures, but also for facing public and residential buildings, but also to use it in interior decoration of residential and public premises without any restrictions .

Peculiarities of appearance: Pomegranate amphiboleite has a fine-grained structure and a patchy-banded texture, has a polychrome pattern, where gray-white stripes alternate irregularly with non-standard and black and pomegranate. The predominant color is black. Scattered on the surface of small and medium white grain resembles the first snow in the autumn forest, which can not but be fascinating. Probably, such an association gave this stone the commercial name "Tundra". The fine-grained structure provides increased strength, excellent frost resistance, minimal water absorption, optimum salt resistance, and resistance to abrasion. The stone belongs to the first degree of decorative, and it looks good for any surface treatment: sawed, heat-treated and polished.

Area of application: Pomegranate amphiboleite - almost universal building stone. It is used in all areas of construction, as well as for finishing any type of premises. Small architectural forms, such as vases, pedestals, memorials are often executed from this kind of natural stone. Facing slabs decorate the facade, giving the status to the appearance of the building. The floor plates will make any room a ceremonial and solemn. Stair steps, risers, balustrades, fountains made of pomegranate amphibolite, emphasize the luxury of the interior or exterior. No doubt, the countertops, window sills, fireplace, and table from this natural stone will give the interior a refined style.
