In 1789, in Shpalernaya Street palace built by architect IM Starov. construction continued

The palace was built on the orders of the Empress Catherine II to her favorite, Prince Grigory Potemkin.
The name is due to the merits of the Tauride Palace of Field Marshal Potemkin, shot to fame in the conquest of Tauris (Crimea).

In January 1918, in the Tauride Palace were the first and last meeting of the Constituent Assembly of Russia.
